It's SETSUBUN today and so prepared some EHO MAKI (good luck direction rolled sushi) for my family. It's actually not a sushi though since my daughter requested for Kimpa instead.
For those of you who came to my January class, hope you're able to celebrate the event at home tonight!

★FEBRUARY LESSON TOPIC & MENU: HINA MATSURI (Doll Festival or Girl's Day) ["Scattered" sushi/ Sea bream with cherry blossom sauce/ Kelp seaweed marinated canola blossoms/ Clam clear soup]

★MARCH LESSON TOPIC & MENU : HANAMI (Cherry blossom viewing) [Rice with homemade salted cherry blossoms/ Clear soup with spring veggies/ Deep fried Spanish mackerel/ Rolled omelette with Japanese soup stock]

★APRIL LESSON TOPIC & MENU: KODOMO NO HI (Children's Day or Boys' Day) [Bamboo shoot rice/ Asparagus miso soup/ Yellowtail teriyaki/ Hijiki seaweed dressed with Tofu dressing]

Just as you have events and holidays unique to your home country, we have many special events throughout the year, which are strongly associated with special food or dishes that are prepared for that particular day.

This is a monthly thematic course which focus on cooking special dishes for each month’s Japanese event. Not only you will learn to cook the dishes, you will learn about our customs, the history of our different events which are sure to make your life in Japan a more memorable, fun experience for you (and your family and friends)!

You will be just amazed by how our ancestors defined every little detail with such special meaning behind it.

What's even more unique about our lessons, is that you will be provided with a link to purchase all the food ingredients and tools that are necessary to cook the recipes from the lessons, so that you can cook them in your kitchen and experience the event, just like we do!!

YES! you can start from any time of the year and
YES! you can also select only the months that interests you.
BUT! you’d probably end up taking them all, because there is always so much you can learn!

By the time you finish all 12, not only you will be an total expert on Japanese culture, learning about our different food ingredients will definitely make your trips to local supermarkets a much happier routine for you! So come and join the fun!

So happy I got to learn other usages for many of my spices sitting in my pantry!

This month is about our December event; Winter Solstice and New Year’s Eve and we will learn about the events while we learn to cook Year End SOBA noodles, YU DOFU (Japanese TOFU hotpot) and ITOKO NI (simmered pumpkin dish eaten on winters solstice day)
